KCWIFT can help raise funds for members' creative projects.
KCWIFT wants to help you raise money for your next creative endeavor. As your fiscal sponsor, we can provide accessibility and efficiency for artists who need support for raising funds.
There's always a catch.
While there are many philanthropic individuals, charitable foundations, and government institutions devoted to funding the arts, many independent artists and small production companies lack 501(c)(3) tax status and, therefore, are ineligible to apply for certain grants or individual gifts. Every minute an artist devotes to starting her own nonprofit is time she can't devote to her creative project and the ongoing, day-to-day business of administering a tax-exempt organization can prove too much for independent writers, directors, and producers to devote.
That's where KCWIFT can help.
KCWIFT wants you to make time for your art, not the paperwork necessary to fund it. With our fiscal sponsorship, you can solicit tax-deductible donations and apply for grants without going through the mind-numbing process of launching a 501(c)(3). KCWIFT's fiscal sponsorship program is open and accessible to all of our members, no matter their artistic discipline, and sponsorship is not contingent upon our judgment regarding projects' artistic quality or merit of your work.
What is required for fiscal sponsorship?
- You must be a current KCWIFT member. Membership is open to women and men, no matter their place of residence, and members can join online or at any of our networking meetings throughout the year.
- Your project must be artistic but media projects can be any genre.
- You must complete our fiscal sponsorship contract in order to be approved. See sample contract here.
Do you charge a fee for sponsorship?
There is a 5% administrative fee for any cash or check donations made to your sponsored project (6% for credit card donations), to cover KCWIFT's costs of administrating the restricted fund for your project. For more information on how funds are administered, see our sample contract.
How long does the application process take?
New applications are reviewed by KCWIFT's Board of Directors on a monthly basis. Once your project is approved for fiscal sponsorship, you should be able to accept funds within ten days.
How and when will you receive the money raised for your project?
Donations will be held for ten days. After the ten-day period, you may request project funds be sent via check or electronic fund transfer. KCWIFT will process fund releases on a monthly basis.
